What is Telemedicine?
Telemedicine is the use of phone or video to provide healthcare from a distance. With today’s technology, labs can be ordered from one location and taken from another. Dr. Gil uses your lab results combined with the phone, email, and/or video conferencing in this way. He can then recommend natural, safe, non-invasive, and effective treatments for mental health concerns. You don’t have to take time off of work, spend hours in waiting rooms, or battle traffic for an appointment.
Telehealth services for mental health offer many advantages and benefits. You don’t have to wait as long for an appointment for one thing. And travel time is reduced saving you time and money. Plus if you live in a location with few or no providers, you can still get access to high-quality healthcare. There are several studies showing telemedicine’s greater efficacy in healthcare delivery for many specialties. Mental health medicine is one of these areas. The American Telemedicine Association reports that telemedicine provides better patient monitoring, outcomes, and higher patient satisfaction. Other benefits of telemedicine include faster turnaround time for test results, better communication with patients, and greater convenience for the patient. Improved access to healthcare providers via email is also a significant benefit for many patients.
How I Work with Patients
The Process of Receiving Telehealth Services for Mental Health
Telehealth services begin with an initial conversation by phone or email. We can sometimes order lab tests through one of our partner labs. We can run these tests in most US states and many other countries. Once the results are in, Dr. Gil reviews them and analyzes your brain chemistry using the Walsh Protocol and a naturopathic approach. The Walsh Protocol developed by William Walsh looks at mental health issues arising out of nutrient deficiencies. Dr. Gil will recommend vitamins and supplements based on the lab results, your history, and symptoms, and goals for your health. Supplements can be ordered through Dr. Gil’s Fullscript medicinary or on your own. After you have been taking the prescription for several weeks, Dr. Gil follows up with you to see how you are doing and make any adjustments needed.
In most cases, insurance does not cover the cost of the visit, but you can consult with your particular company. We may be able to assist you in getting lab costs covered though.
Demand for telemedicine is growing as patients discover the many advantages of telemedicine. There’s no need to drive to an office and fight for parking while getting access to some of the best doctors in the world. And natural treatments for depression and other mental health concerns are safe and effective. Why not combine the two with Ask Dr. Gil?
